Starbucks Recalls Kids' Cups for Choking Hazard

Starbucks Corp., the world's largest coffee chain, is recalling approximately 250,000 kids' cups made in China because of choking and laceration hazards that the cups pose to children.

The kids' cups when dropped tend to break on their colorful face (see above link for photo), leaving shards of plastic exposed on the face of the cup that may harm children. The company thus far has received seven reports in which the face of the cup has broken, leaving sharp plastic shards jutting out. The company also received two cases in which children swallowed and began to choke on the broken pieces of the face.

Starbucks sold these cups at their coffee stores from May 2006 through August 2007 for about $6. Parents with the cups are urged to return them to Starbucks for a full refund. Starbucks has also added that the company will offer a free beverage as an incentive reward to return their defective product.
